Antique Scottish Coat of Arms circa 1830

350.00

Found in my apartment (Moray Place, Edinburgh) during renovations. Carved from solid mahogany (not an applique).

Description

A very good Georgian period carving, extending up to 1.5cm from the surface.  Overall size is 42cm high, 35cm wide with overall thickness of 3cm. No woodworm damage. Appears to be oil painted (but no gesso present).

The back has had a green cloth over it at some time, and the brass hanging plates are functional. The bottom edge is a bit worn (not straight) as someone had previously put it an inappropriate picture frame, now discarded. There is also a very old repair to a previous split at the bottom edge. All part of the character – this is not a modern remake.

Can send within Europe by DHL or deliver on my travels (or collect from Edinburgh by arrangement).
