Description

Made from Scottish oak to commemorate the 1503 wedding of James iv of Scotland and Margaret Tudor dubbed “Marriage of the Thistle and the Rose”. This bed is solid, and bolted by cast iron lion head nuts – does not creak or move.

The 4 finials are of oak, and represent the King’s crown (the original crown NOT the ‘modern’ post-1540 version); original Queen’s crown; Church crown; and Book/Lectern (representing the King’s patronage of education). The King, Queen, and Church finial locations are interchangeable.

The tartan pattern of the headboard is constructed from 3cms thick oak, mahogany and greenheart – this not a veneer- it is solid wood.

The shield is shown positioned on the headboard (or can be hung on a wall if desired). A “royal period-themed” tapestry is located above the headboard for further effect.

All beams and planks have been cut ‘quartersawn’ as was traditional (very stable and expensive). Posts are from 11cm square oak. The frame is made to take a pair of 2m x 90cm mattresses (or a one-piece 2m x 180cm). Height to top of finials is 2.55m ie 8ft 4.5″ (a high ceiling is required).

Delivery by arrangement in Scotland (or collection from Edinburgh) .
